Australia: A Wealth of Opportunities

Australia is the third largest producer of gold in the world and holds the world's largest known economic resources of silver, bauxite, iron ore, lead, zinc, uranium, industrial diamonds and mineral sands, as well as extensive deposits of other key minerals and gems. It leads the world in bauxite production and ranks and sixth in coal, and accounts for 55% of the world's tantalum, 36% of zircon, 27% of rutile and 15% of nickel. Mining companies also benefit from a number of advantages in Australia, including:

  • Quality exploration resources, including maps and geological, geochemical and geophysical data
  • Excellent land access systems, including clear aboriginal heritage and environmental approvals processes
  • Extensive infrastructure to service the mineral exploration industry, allowing potentially rapid development and low-cost mining of mineral resources, including:
    • Specialist contract mining organizations
    • Numerous mills with excess production capacity
  • Highly skilled workforce
  • Availability of competitively priced energy
  • Proven track record in successful resources development
  • Good prospectivity
  • Proximity to expanding markets in Asia
  • Low sovereign risk and stable political system

Despite these advantages and its strong track record in mineral development, Australia under-performs in global competition for mineral exploration, according to industry advocates, including the Australian Gold Council.

Australian Mineral Fields believes that Australia's combination of abundant mineral resources, established mining exploration and development infrastructure, and historical under-development represents a tremendous opportunity for the Company to apply its innovative exploration techniques to explore potentially productive mineral properties.
